Minty Wild Blueberry Smoothie

Wild your taste buds with this refreshing, minty wild blueberry smoothie

“Avocado?!” That was the reaction my husband gave me when I told him I was making a wild blueberry smoothie with avocado. Avocado has many nutritional benefits and surprisingly, it does not change the flavor when added to blended drinks. If anything, it just makes it that much more creamy! And part of adding avocado enables me to be creative with my smoothies - which is the fun part about being in the kitchen. 

This smoothie is packed with antioxidants, fiber, and manganese with its star ingredient: the wild blueberry. Now, you’re probably curious between the difference of wild blueberries and regular (or cultivated) blueberries. There are some mild differences between the two. Wild blueberries are much smaller in size than their cultivated cousins. Although they both provide a powerhouse of antioxidants, wild blueberries provide twice as much antioxidants per cup due to its small size. With that information alone, this purple berry makes a great staple to have on hand! 

The best part about this smoothie is that there is no added sugar or other artificial sugars. The smoothie is naturally sweetened from the fruits: wild blueberries, raspberries, and dates. You’ll also be provided with a little plant protein and some healthy fats from the hemp seeds and avocado. And the mint leaves add a bright, bold flavor to this refreshing smoothie.

Minty Wild Blueberry Smoothie

Serves: 1-2 servings
Total Time: 5-6 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baby spinach

  • ½ cup raspberries

  • 1 cup frozen Wild Blueberries

  • ½ small avocado (or about ¼ cup)

  • ¼ cup oats

  • ½ tablespoon hemp seeds

  • 10 medium mint leaves

  • 2 pitted dates

  • 1 ¾ cup filtered water

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

  2. Serve into a glass and enjoy your nutritious drink!
